Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI)

August 1994 through May 1998.

I applied, went for an in-person interview, and received a full scholarship to attend. I was so excited to attend KCAI! I had planned to go into the Painting Department. During everyone’s Freshman year, you had to take various courses your second semester. The last course I took was in Stone Carving.

Well, my life changed. I ended up going into the Sculpture Department, as a stone carver. In my Sophomore year, I strictly focused on stone carving; fine-tuning hand and power tool processes.

During my stent through my Junior into Senior years, I became obsessed with other hand and power tool processes. This obsession with perfection was into casting various metals, casting styles, hand-throwing ceramics, mixed media, and welding various metals.

While attending KCAI, I was homeless a few times. The first two times, were not by choice. The last time, in my Senior year, the last 6 months, I chose to be homeless to pay for additional supplies in creating sculptures.
